Don't Have A Verified Account On Twitter? Who Cares!

10:59 PM

Honestly, nobody cares. Not even the people who do end up getting verified care. They don't understand what all the fuss is about. There are actually still some celebrities out there who really don't want a verified account. They feel if they can create the following from their official site and other means to create more social traffic, that they don't need that little blue check mark that everyone wants by their name.

People keep finding out everyday that they can't just submit the form and POOF! You're verified, like it use to be. Now their are certain guidelines to the whole rigmarole. Suffice to say, unless you're paying big bucks to Twitter to advertise every month, have friends at Twitter or are a celebrity, chances are you won't be verified. But people continue to push and push. Hundreds or even thousands of users each saying they are suffering from debilitating impersonators constantly "stealing" their identities for whatever purpose someone would want to steal an average Joe's identity. Coming up with ridiculous excuses to bear the ever popular blue check.

I've seen and heard people who have tried certain websites and programs that promise to get your account "verified" but come up empty-handed and have seen people even go through the trouble of photoshopping the "verified" blue badge into their cover photo or their profile picture itself. You're not fooling anyone but yourself with that one. And to add insult to injury, your account could be suspended and/or deleted because you are violating Twitter's Terms of Service and User Agreement.

If you have a website and you really are afraid of impersonations, link you're account to your site and other social media sites to create that extra traffic and people will without a doubt know it is you. If you are unaware of how to do any of this, visit the developer section of Twitter's blog and they will provide you with the tools and how to use them, step by step.

For the amount of time spent and effort put into trying to get verified, these people (including yourself if the shoe fits) could be perfecting whatever craft they want to exert on the Twitter social stage or create content that people will want to follow to get a continuous dose of. Who knows, maybe you'll build a huge following at some point and render enough attention to necessitate an account verification. But until then, do yourself a favor and don't count on it. It's not worth the trouble or asking the  Twitter support.
